Powering the AMS 700™ Inflatable Penile Prosthesis (IPP), the TENACIO™ Pump is purpose-built from the inside out with advanced engineering and a bold design that aims to streamline the patient experience. TENACIO is designed to maintain consistent performance throughout an expected implant life of 10 years (corresponding to 1,000 uses).
Choosing an IPP: Options and innovation
When comparing AMS 700 with other inflatable penile prostheses for the treatment of ED, physicians and patients may consider a range of factors, such as device design, infection risk, reliability, and long-term satisfaction. Because prosthesis selection is highly individualized, several considerations may help inform device choice.
Device design
Device design, including the prosthesis’s cylinders, pump, and reservoir, may influence surgical technique and patient experience. AMS 700 is a category-leading, physician-preferred implant designed to look and feel natural.
- Natural appearance: The unique, sophisticated cylinder construction is meticulously layered with silicone and fabric that work together to reinforce and maintain a symmetrical shape regardless of patient anatomy. The result is a prosthesis that is designed to look and feel natural, whether deflated or inflated.
- More size options: With three cylinder design options to choose from—the CX, CXR, and LGX—AMS 700 has the most variations of any penile implant on the US market.
- Confirmed deflation: TENACIO’s high-profile, one-press release button provides tactile feedback designed to help users confirm that deflation has started.
Patient satisfaction
In a survey of 194 patients who received an AMS 700 Penile Implant with Momentary Squeeze (MS) Pump, 95% were very satisfied or satisfied with their sexual intercourse.2 The AMS 700 Penile Implant is also designed to feel natural during intercourse and typically does not interfere with ejaculation or orgasm.1,3-6

Infection risk
Physicians may consider the mitigation of infection risk when selecting an implantable device.
- Reducing the rate of revisions due to infection: All three cylinders design options for AMS 700 are available with InhibiZone Antibiotic Treatment, clinically proven to reduce revision surgery due to infection.7
- Ready to use: The AMS 700 IPP is the only line of penile implants on the market with clinically proven InhibiZone treatment already built in, whereas Coloplast™ Titan requires soaking in antibiotics, which could add variability to the procedure and increase risk of device contamination.7-10, 12-14
Reducing the risk of post-operative infection is important, and a recent real-world research analysis from Boston Scientific suggests that post-IPP infection rates may be associated with device selection, along with patient characteristics.
Reliability and durability
Long-term performance, resistance to wear, and reliable function may be important factors in prosthesis selection.
- Sticky pump: One potential mechanical malfunction of IPPs, stiction syndrome or “sticky pump,” is when a pump bulb stays fully compressed or becomes very hard to squeeze.
- Wear-resistance: AMS 700 is the only penile implant on the market with Parylene—proven in published studies to mitigate cylinder fatigue and increase long-term durability.15-16
