Daily Activities with a Coronary Stent
It’s important to remember that you can live a full and active life with a coronary stent. You can find some general guidelines about returning to working, resuming your everyday activities and making some heart-healthy lifestyle changes below. But be sure to talk to your doctor about what’s right for your specific situation.
Making Lifestyle Changes
Your coronary stent will help widen your clogged arteries and restore proper blood flow to your heart. But there are important lifestyle changes you can make to help prevent the progression of your coronary artery disease, such as changing your diet, increasing your activity level and quitting smoking.
Returning to Work
Most people can return to work within a few days following their stent procedure, but be sure to talk to your doctor to see what’s right for you.
Exercise and Sports
Please check with your doctor about what physical activities you can do after your implant procedure and when it is safe to resume them.
Going Through Metal Detectors
Your coronary stent will not set off metal detectors. So you can go through metal detectors at the airport, sporting events and other public places without any fear of setting them off.
Carrying Your Stent Implant Card
Whether you’re running a quick errand or going on vacation, it’s important to carry your Stent Implant Card with you at all times. If you receive dental or medical care or report to an emergency room, show your Stent Implant Card. You will be given an implant card at the time of your procedure. Your implant card contains your name, your doctor’s name and phone number, and information about your implanted stent(s).
Talk to Your Doctor
Every patient’s situation is unique. So, it’s important to talk to your doctor about ways to safely resume normal activities after your coronary stent procedure.
