Studies validating the accuracy of AI-powered Automated Lesion Assessment (ALA™)
August 2023, Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Advances, Matsumura M, Mintz GS, Dohi T, et al.
This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of machine learning (ML)-based automatic segmentation of coronary artery vessel and lumen dimensions using high-definition intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) images. The findings demonstrated that the ML model correlated strongly with expert analysis, achieving over 90% agreement in appropriate balloon size selection and high accuracy in lumen and stent area measurements, suggesting its potential to improve percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) outcomes.
February 2025, Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Galo J, Chaturvedi A, Al-Qaraghuli A, et al.
This study validates the AVVIGO+ IVUS Automated Lesion Assessment (ALA) software, which uses machine learning for automatic segmentation, in assessing complex coronary lesions. It demonstrated high agreement in stent size selection between ALA, an independent core laboratory (CL), and an expert interventional cardiologist (IC), particularly using lumen-based sizing methods. The findings suggest that ALA can improve operator efficiency, reduce radiation exposure, and facilitate the adoption of intravascular imaging in routine clinical practice.
July 2025, Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine, Rubio PM, Garcia-Garcia HM, Galo J, et al.
The study compares the performance of AVVIGO+, an AI-powered software, with interventional cardiologists (IC) in assessing IVUS-based stent optimization during PCI. AVVIGO+ demonstrated improved accuracy in detecting suboptimal stent expansion and geographic miss, identifying smaller minimum stent areas and higher plaque burden values compared to ICs, while reducing analysis time by nearly 60%. These findings suggest that AI-based platforms like AVVIGO+ can enhance precision, efficiency, and standardization in IVUS-guided stent optimization.
