5/5 Mobile-Learning – Improving the diagnosis of heart defects

In the Navy, there is a saying ‘five by five’ which means you have fully understood a message loud and clear. The Fondation Francine Leca project wants doctors in underdeveloped countries to be able to say ‘five by five’ to the message on paediatric cardiology.

The award-winning 5/5 campaign implemented a full e-learning programme to train doctors practicing in African countries on how to diagnose cardiac diseases in children. Within two months of its launch, the training had 16 ambassadors from 10 countries. Now, 550 doctors have been trained with the application deployed in 28 countries, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa and the Caribbean.

Discover more about the mission of Fondation Francine Leca and its project “Five by Five” in the video interview with MD Francine Leca.

She Decides - Electronic Maternity Consultation Register

There is a significant need in Guinea to improve the health outcomes of women and newborns. This project from the children’s aid charity, Terre des Hommes, Lausanne, Switzerland, aims to introduce an innovative new platform in Guinea that will improve the quality of care for women and newborns during pregnancy, birth and post-partum – reducing maternal and neonatal mortality.

The Electronic Maternity Consultation Register (REC) provides the health worker access to the information and guidance they need to deliver the most appropriate advice, with digital medical history of the patient, clinical examination and decision support tools.

The REC tool, which is being piloted in 15 health centres, is initiating a major innovation to improve health indicators in Guinea.

Learning Digital Empathy to Support Cancer Patient Outcomes

Communication is fundamental for the development of a good therapeutic relationship. Evidence shows that a better interaction between patients and healthcare professionals improves the experience of diagnosis and adherence to therapeutic regimens.

With the digitalisation of healthcare, and an increase in virtual consultations between clinician and patient, digital empathy has become an integral skill for health professionals.

Salute Donna Onlus in Italy, the association for the prevention and fight against cancer, developed a course during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide oncology healthcare professionals with the communication tools and techniques they need to optimise digital interactions with their patients. Held across five hospitals, they trained over 150 specialists.
