Risk assessment is critical in infection prevention

Decorative Image

With departmental personnel, it's a matter of assessing who may come into contact with a contaminated endoscope, device, or bodily fluid, and sourcing the appropriate equipment.1

Protecting patients, on the other hand, is more complex.

An infection risk assessment would consider the likelihood of persistent contamination of the endoscope inventory.

It would also consider any relevant patient characteristics. For instance, patients who are immunocompromised, who have an obstruction in the HPB tract, or a high-risk cardiovascular disease are more vulnerable to infection than otherwise healthy individuals.
