Everyone should be empowered to be their authentic selves at work. We’re fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture where employees can advance their careers and collaborate to improve and save patients’ lives.

Nurturing a diverse and inclusive workplace helps us be more innovative and it is important for a high performing culture. Our diversity value stands for inclusion, equality and opportunity for all, and guides our work to advance science and improve patient health. By embracing the richness of our unique backgrounds and perspectives, we create a better, more rewarding place for our employees to work and reflect the patients, customers and communities we serve.

Putting it into practice

Here are some of the practical initiatives we have underway at Boston Scientific to further diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

  • Mandatory trainings for our people managers, helping them hire and manage multicultural teams and engage in more open and honest conversations with employees.
  • Implementation of the EMEA Diversity and Inclusion Council; a group that focuses on developing strategies on gender for the region.
  • Facilitation of flexible working arrangements where possible.
  • Boston Scientific sponsors Employee Resource Groups, which foster a diverse and inclusive work environment; this includes a women's network, which organises events and activities aimed at supporting women’s advancement and development.
  • We offer comprehensive learning and development programmes to equip our employees with the tools required to advance their careers.

Learning from our Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are vital collaborators in our DE&I strategy. ERGs are voluntary, company-sponsored employee groups that champion opportunity for all in our work environment and provide ongoing feedback to regional leaders. These ERGs are typically formed around specific dimensions of diversity, for example, gender, race, sexual orientation or life stage. All employees are welcome and encouraged to join any ERG.

In the EMEA region, our activated ERGs and diversity groups include a women's network, a young professionals' network and a LGBTQ+ community. The different ERGs and groups organise many employee events and activities aimed at advancing DE&I awareness and understanding across the region.

Addressing gender pay imbalances

At Boston Scientific, we are working hard to ensure men and women are paid equally for doing similar jobs and have been globally conducting regular pay equity studies since 2016.

Our compensation programmes help us to attract, motivate and reward our employees. Our programmes include base pay, bonus pay, shares, health and wellness, learning and career development, retirement and other reward and recognition programmes.

At Boston Scientific, providing equal pay for equal work is rooted in our values and essential to attract and retain a diverse and engaged workforce. We are committed to ensuring all compensation decisions are made without bias. For example, we offer consistent compensation programmes that are market-driven; our pay structures and bonus targets are driven by performance and benchmarked against the market. In addition, our annual pay review process is performance-based, ensuring managers set and review compensation in a way that is gender neutral.

We have implemented a structured process to comply with local regulations wherever we operate and identify best practices. Please find results below from our UK and France gender pay analysis.
