리줌 시술 의료진 대상 심포지엄 개최해 축적된 임상 경험 및 현장 기반 지견 공유

보스톤사이언티픽은 최소침습적 전립선비대증 치료인 ‘수증기 이용 경요도 전립선 절제술’에 사용되는 의료기기 ‘리줌 시스템 (Rezūm System) ’이 국내 누적 6천례를 달성했다고 밝혔다. 리줌 시스템은 2023년 7월 국내 도입 이후 성기능 보존을 고려할 수 있는 효과적이고 안전한 치료 옵션으로 국내 임상 현장에서 적용이 확대돼 왔다.[1]

전립선비대증은 늘어난 전립선이 소변의 흐름을 방해해 배뇨에 어려움을 느끼거나 잔뇨감, 빈뇨, 야간뇨 등의 증상을 유발하며, 60세까지 남성의 절반, 85세까지 남성의 약 90%가 경험하는 매우 흔한 질환이다.[2] 건강보험심사평가원에 따르면 국내 전립선비대증 환자는 2020년 약 130만 명에서 2024년 약 158만 명으로 21% 증가했다.[3]

리줌 시스템은 요도를 통해 전달 장치를 삽입해 전립선 조직에 수증기를 방출함으로써 수증기 에너지로 비대해진 전립선 조직을 줄여준다. 기존 치료법과 달리 조직 절개나 클립 등 체내 이물질을 남기지 않는 것이 특징이다.[4] 리줌 시술 환자를 5년간 추적 관찰한 연구 결과에 따르면 5년간 치료 효과가 지속되는 것으로 나타났으며, 시술 또는 기기 관련된 발기 기능 부작용은 보고되지 않았다.¹

지난 7일 보스톤사이언티픽은 리줌 시스템 6천례 달성과 함께 국내 리줌 시술 의료진을 대상으로 심포지엄을 개최했다. 이 행사는 리줌 시술에 대한 축적된 임상적 경험과 노하우를 공유하는 자리로 실제 임상 현장에서 활용할 수 있는 치료 전략과 임상적 과제를 중심으로 폭넓은 논의가 이뤄졌다.

발표를 맡은 이승주 가톨릭대학교 성빈센트병원 비뇨의학과 교수는 “전립선비대증은 환자의 증상 정도, 전립선 크기와 구조, 건강 상태 등을 고려해 치료 전략을 결정해야 한다”며 “리줌 시술은 약물 치료나 수술이 어려운 환자 등 다양한 환자에게 고려될 수 있어 전립선비대증 치료 선택의 폭을 넓히며 의료진의 치료 전략에도 의미 있는 변화를 가져오고 있다”고 말했다.

리줌 시스템은 2015년 미국 식품의약국(FDA) 승인과 2022년 국내 식품의약품안전처 허가를 거쳐 2023년 보건복지부 신의료기술로 고시됐다.
