The Boston Scientific Foundation
In 2002, Boston Scientific formalized its charitable giving effort with the establishment of the Boston Scientific Foundation. As a medical device company dedicated to improving lives through innovation, Boston Scientific created the Foundation to support innovative programs that improve lives in two important areas: health and education.
The Foundation's health-related investments seek to improve the health of individuals with the greatest unmet needs, while its education-related investments seek to improve educational opportunities and skill development for those at risk of not fulfilling their potential.
Community-Focused
The Foundation gives priority to initiatives that target a clearly defined community or population, and that have a strong potential to produce measurable long-term improvements in health care and education. To maximize local impact, a Boston Scientific Employee Community Team in each region where Boston Scientific is located makes recommendations on grant applications from that region. The Foundation board of directors oversees nationwide initiatives.
Making a Difference
During its first full year of operation in 2003, the Boston Scientific Foundation awarded more than $1 million in grants to programs across the country. Through these efforts, the people of Boston Scientific are making a difference in lives across the country.
