High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) technology is completely non-invasive and is being investigated to close the puncture site by delivering heat. HIFU is an energy form that precisely focuses sound waves in a manner that is analogous to the way a magnifying glass focuses light. By focusing the sound waves on the puncture site it rapidly coagulates the surrounding tissue, closing the puncture site and stopping the bleeding in a few minutes.
