Translute™ Polymer

Boston Scientific’s proprietary polymer, Translute, controls the release of paclitaxel which underlies the clinical consistency and predictability of our TAXUS paclitaxel-eluting stent system. Extensive research and development has demonstrated that the value of Translute is in its outstanding vascular compatibility and its mechanical integrity.

While years of research went into developing the Translute polymer, two more years of in-depth research and engineering work went into refining the method by which the polymer is applied to the stent. The result is an elegant and straightforward process that allows for the controlled release of paclitaxel.

Six- and twelve-month results from the TAXUS I and six-month results from TAXUS II clinical trials are providing clinical evidence that we have chosen a safe and effective drug and polymer combination for the TAXUS paclitaxel-eluting stent system. It is clear that paclitaxel, the Translute polymer, our clinical trial program, and the Express2 stent have become key differentiators for Boston Scientific.
