Holmium Laser Ablation of the Prostate (HoLAP)
Holmium Laser Ablation of the Prostate (HoLAP)
HoLAP is a next generation surgical alternative to TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate) for the treatment BPH of (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) symptoms. This technology uses laser energy to remove obstructing prostate tissue. A small flexible fiber delivers laser energy to the prostate. The physician controls the direction and delivery of the laser energy, rapidly vaporizing the obstructing tissue. Once the tissue has been vaporized, urine flow may be restored.
Holmium laser treatment (also known as HoLAP - Holmium
Laser Ablation of the Prostate) is a minimally invasive surgical treatment option that uses laser energy and is designed to alleviate BPH symptoms and reduce some of the complications associated with traditional surgery such as TURP (TransUrethral Resection of the Prostate). Patients may experience immediate symptom relief and little, if any, bleeding and may be released the same day without a catheter.
The HoLAP procedure utilizes the VersaPulse® Powersuite™ 100 Watt Holmium Laser in combination with the DuoTome™ SideLite™ 550 Micron Delivery System.
The Lumenis Lasers and Fibers have been cleared by the FDA for several applications including: ablation, vaporization, excision, incision and coagulation of: soft tissue, cartilage and calculi.
