Science School Program in Japan
Boston Scientific Japan launched a medical science experiential school for children to become "kid doctors" and learn about the human body. The school is aimed at providing medical and scientific education to nurture future generations. The school programs were designed for children to have hands-on learning about the body and the world of medical care.
Cork Supports Local STEM Initiatives
Boston Scientific Cork Women’s Network introduced a STEM school partnership programme in to encourage girls aged 12 to 14 years in the surrounding community to pursue studies in STEM (Science, Engineering, Engineering, Maths) subjects.
The initiative involves school classes visiting Cork’s manufacturing facility and engaging with female role models, technicians and engineers who speak to the young women about their chosen career paths and involve them in practical science experiments, designed by Junior Achievement, to show the application of STEM expertise in industry. Students also receive an interactive tour of the site.
The STEM school partnership programme also involves female Engineers visiting local primary level schools (ages 6 to 11 years) to talk about careers in STEM.
Boston Scientific Partners with Girls Inc.
Recently, members of the field-based Boston Scientific (BS) She women's group sponsored a professional development session for over thirty-five girls at Girls Inc. in St. Louis. The group spent the morning speaking with the girls about Boston Scientific's dedication to advancing science for life. This event served to further demonstrate Boston Scientific's ongoing commitment to STEM education and focus on developing a more diverse talent pipeline in the communities we serve.
BS She will partner with D&I to engage women in the field to become directly involved by serving as mentors, role models and champions for Girls Inc. programs nationally. Plans are already in the works for building connections in Orange County, CA, New York, Indianapolis, and Florida.
Girls Inc. is a national organization which inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, providing more than 140,000 girls across the U.S. and Canada with life-changing experiences and solutions to the unique challenges girls face. BS She’s mission is to develop, encourage and inspire women at Boston Scientific to excel in their careers, mentor others and lead within their communities.
