“I can help people and help save their lives. This is something you can’t replicate in other fields and companies.”
In your opinion, why is building a culture of inclusion a business imperative at Boston Scientific?
For any business to grow and succeed sustainably, it is of utmost importance to leverage the contributions of every individual to its fullest. This is only possible when we develop a culture of inclusiveness where everybody feels secure, feels good at heart and is ready to give his/her best in whatever they do. This feeling drives each employee to make impactful contributions in whatever they do and make an impact in growth and success of organization.
Who most helped you get where you are today?
It’s a combination between my parents and my colleagues. I started in Boston Scientific as an intern and I’ve learned that you make your own opportunities – I see the way you react to everyday challenges as the key to success. My boss once told me that attitude is the first thing people notice about you, so it’s important to get right!
In what ways have you found BSC’s culture to be inclusive?
Having employee resource groups, an open culture that welcomes asking questions, and frequent opportunities to connect with leadership are few of the examples of the inclusive culture at BSC.
Why did you choose to become an ERG member and what has your personal experience been like?
I joined an employee resource group to expand my network while also doing something meaningful and impactful along with normal routine project work. In my first six months of being an ERG member, I have gained so much more than I expected. It has really been an enriching experience.
What have you gained from your participation?
I am a believer of ‘doing what you love even if it takes extra effort and time.’ The events I have been involved in with YPN (Young Professionals Network) has boosted my energy level and has empowered me. The gains are countless - be it leadership lessons, experience of managing a team and an entire annual event calendar and budget planning, handling unexpected challenges, an expanded network, and many more.
In what ways does Boston Scientific allow you to bring your best self to work each day?
Because we are in the medical device field, I know that my every action is going to help patients and make their lives better. This very thing inspires me each day to do my best as a design engineer and not leave any stone unturned to develop best-in-class products. Secondly, the presence of of our ERG’s gives me the opportunity to network with likeminded people, to stretch myself and grow not only in the technical field but also in things like project management, team management and leadership.
What inspires you about working at Boston Scientific?
Two major reasons. First, I can help people and help save their lives. This is something you can’t replicate in other fields and companies. Second, being a part of YPN. This gives me the platform to offer my ideas and thoughts with likeminded YPN members, convert them into an event or initiative, execute them, and pass on its benefits to a large audience across campus.
