Pain Alliance Europe

Pain Alliance Europe (PAE) was founded in the European Parliament in 2011. It is a Pan-European umbrella organisation of 28 national associations in 15 EU Member States, representing over 300 000 individual chronic pain patients.
For PAE, quality of life for a chronic pain patient means giving the patient the right to choose the best possible solutions and support to live his life according to his possibilities and wishes.
The strategic objectives of the organisations are to promote awareness for chronic pain, to promote a European policy on chronic pain and to reduce the impact of chronic pain on the European society on all areas.
These are to be achieved by :
Working in close relation with the other stakeholders
Gather and distribute relative information on chronic pain from the patients point of view
Establish a good relation with potential sponsors
Promote and or initiate research on chronic pain
Growing the association
Obtaining visibility through events, website, media coverage

AFVD

AFVD is a non-profit patient organization created in 2006 by Martine Chauvin, a chronic back pain sufferer who struggled for years to find the right treatment for her pain until she was offered spinal cord stimulation. Martine created AFVD to help other pain patients by sharing her experience and with the vision that her association could help accelerate access to care and pain management.
AFVD has two main objectives :
1.Change the way chronic pain is considered
Chronic pain should be recognized as a disease by itself, causing physical impairment, psychological distress, and socio-professional difficulties. AFVD activities are fully dedicated and intended to improve chronic pain prevention, diagnosis and management.
2.Help and support patients suffering from chronic pain
Inform patients and their relatives about pain management solutions, change patients behaviors towards pain, share experiences, and help them to claim for support and treatment.
AFVD has been recognized as a public interest association in 2008. AFDV is a foundational member of Pain Alliance Europe since 2012 and has received the Agrément National Award for its representation of members in different hospital departments or public health authorities. AFDV is also a member of CISS (Collectif Inter-associatif Sur la Santé) in regions.
