Male Sling System
Male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is typically caused by a damaged urethral sphincter, the muscle that controls urine flow from the bladder. A Male Sling System is designed to stop leakage by providing support for this muscle.1
How it Works
The sling is a strip of flexible synthetic material. After insertion, it acts as a hammock, repositioning and supporting the urethra to help restore normal bladder control.1
Placing the implant requires a minimally invasive procedure, involving a few small incisions.2 The surgery is performed under anesthesia. Most patients are continent immediately following the procedure.3 Your urologist can tell you more about the surgical procedure.
Every patient’s experience is different, and you should talk to your physician about what to expect. Please consult with your surgeon on activities to avoid during recovery for faster healing and a better overall outcome. Most patients can resume normal daily activities one to two weeks after the procedure.4 As with any medical procedure, complications can occur. Side effects include, but are not limited to:4
- Pain and inflammation
- Bleeding and irritation at wound site
- Urethral or tissue damage
- Urinary retention1
