Causes and Statistics

What are the causes and statistics?

Prostate enlargement occurs naturally as a man ages. No one knows exactly why the condition occurs, but BPH is widespread with age and is the most common non-cancerous prostate disease in Australia.1

BPH affects approximately 50% of men between the ages of 51 and 60 and up to 90% of men over the age of 80.2

BPH affects more than 2.2 million men over 50 each year in Australia3

Up to 95% of men with moderate symptoms are unhappy and don’t want to spend the rest of their life with these symptoms4

If left untreated, BPH can lead to complications including infection; renal failure; and urinary, bladder, or kidney stones.2,5
