Overview

The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) estimates that over 1.4 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in 2007. Boston Scientific is committed to working with physicians to develop products that improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

Some people suffering from cancer of the liver are not recommended for conventional surgical interventions.

For some of these patients, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) may be a very important treatment option. RFA uses radiofrequency energy to destroy tissue.

Embolization is another option for patients who have tumors that can’t be removed. Embolization is used to reduce the blood flow through the artery that feeds the tumor. This is done by injecting materials, or embolics, intended to block flow to the artery.
