Boston Scientific is an official partner of World Diabetes Day 2009, which takes place each year on November 14th. World Diabetes Day is a worldwide campaign led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), a collaborative alliance of over 200 diabetes associations in over 160 countries.

Major objectives of the campaign include:
- Reaching 1 billion people worldwide with care and prevention messages, including information about the causes, symptoms, complications and treatment of Diabetes.
- Promoting Diabetes prevention and care among healthcare professionals through education materials and programs.

In support of the campaign, Boston Scientific's Senior Vice President of International, David McFaul, said, "We are proud to support the IDF in its efforts to build awareness around this devastating disease that affects millions of people worldwide. As a leader in the medical device industry, we seek to improve the quality of patient care and help improve lives through disease prevention and awareness."

As part of our support, Boston Scientific once again participated in the IDF World Diabetes Day Monument Challenge by temporarily illuminating its corporate headquarters in Natick, Massachusetts blue and changing the color of its Internet homepage to blue in recognition of World Diabetes Day on November 14.
Additional Boston Scientific activities in support of World Diabetes Day occurred at facilities across the globe, including free diabetes screenings for employees, Lunch and Learn Sessions and a SPIN 4 Diabetes fundraiser at the Natick, Massachusetts headquarters.
