Boston Scientific employees from two Toronto facilities recently gathered at the Company’s Customer Fulfillment Center to assemble bicycles for what they thought was a fun team building event in celebration of the Company’s 30th Anniversary. Ten teams were formed, instructions handed out, and the so-called competition to be the first team to build a bicycle began.
The team members were not aware that Patient Services of Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) had assisted Boston Scientific’s management in connecting with the Good Shepherd organization. Good Shepherd selected 10 children in need, whose modest dreams included owning their own bicycles.
While the employee teams were building the bikes, the children were quietly shuttled to the Boston Scientific facility. After the employee teams finished assembling the bicycles, they waited for the winning team to be announced. It was at that moment that the children were escorted into the facility and the teams were told the truth about the event. The children were overjoyed to find new bicycles waiting for them, and the Boston Scientific team members were thrilled that their hard work would benefit such a wonderful cause.
