More than 450 Boston Scientific employees and family members participated in Boston Scientific Volunteer Day on June 20, 2009. Volunteers assisted with community improvement projects at 10 sites in Massachusetts and Minnesota to help mark the Company’s 30th Anniversary. Employees at our Valencia facility also annually take part in Make a Difference Day in October. The Hands on Network is our partner in organizing these events.
Volunteer Project Locations: Massachusetts
Edward Everett Elementary School – Dorchester, MA
Volunteers enhanced the school yard by building a stone retaining wall, constructing wooden flower beds, and planting in the new outdoor classroom. Volunteers also helped organize and shelve materials in the school's library.
MetroWest YMCA Day Camp – Hopkinton, MA
Volunteers helped with the annual spring cleanup by painting the pool fence and filter house, cleaning out cabins and pavilions, moving picnic tables, clearing winter debris and brush around camp, raking out flowerbeds, cutting down stumps from fall brush cut, spreading sand in play area, and cleaning court areas.
Department of Conservation and Recreation: Pleasant Street Pool – Watertown, MA
To help the Pleasant Street Pool prepare for a busy summer season, volunteers painted the exterior of the building and the pool interior, planted flowers, picked up debris and dismantled gates.
Massachusetts Audubon Society: Broad Meadow Brook – Worcester, MA
Boston Scientific volunteers helped restore the native habitat by cutting down small trees and invasive vines.
Dimock Child and Family Development Services c/o Mary Eliza Mahoney Emergency House Shelter – Roxbury, MA
Volunteers painted offices, bathrooms, hallways, childcare classrooms, railings and interior window frames. They also planted border beds with perennials and shrubs and painted the exterior of more than 100 windows.

Opportunity Neighborhood Development Corporation - Brooklyn Park, MN
Volunteers painted the interior and exterior trim of a small building named Serendipity in the Eden Park site.
St. Paul Parks – Lilydale Park Restoration
Recently, an ecological inventory and overall management plan was created for Lilydale Park to help jumpstart the restoration efforts. Invasive plant removal, fence removal and clean up was undertaken by Boston Scientific volunteers.
Sabathani Community Center – Minneapolis, MN
Volunteers painted large murals with community and diversity themes.
Eastside Neighborhood Services – Minneapolis, MN
Work took place in the organization’s youth garden where volunteers built a bench and picnic table, and improved signage.
Catholic Charities – St. Paul, MN
Catholic Charities is selling one of their buildings, but first needed to clean up the site to make it presentable. Boston Scientific volunteers cleaned and landscaped around the building.
