The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. The LEED system provides building owners and operators a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction that can offer an immediate and measurable impact on facility performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
Boston Scientific has embraced LEED as a smart approach to minimizing facility operating costs while benefiting the environment and improving workplace quality, and routinely uses LEED concepts and practices in new building construction and major renovation projects.
The following facility projects have successfully used the LEED tools to design a more energy efficient and environmentally sound building and have been LEED certified:
- Weaver Lake 3, Maple Grove, MN
- Marlborough Endosurgery Campus, Marlborough, MA
