Many changes in laws and ethical codes that govern interactions between industry and health care providers have occurred since Boston Scientific was founded. Boston Scientific was an early supporter of the AdvaMed ethical code and remains involved in helping to update and maintain this important industry code. We respect the obligation of health care professionals to make independent decisions that are in the best interest of patient care. Selection of medical devices should be based solely on their effectiveness, quality and value.
California requires device and pharmaceutical manufacturers to post a comprehensive compliance program and provide an annual declaration as to compliance. Click here to access our California Comprehensive Compliance Program and related declaration.
Certain governments require pharmaceutical, biologic and medical device manufacturers to provide an annual report to a governmental agency regarding a wide variety of financial interactions that pharmaceutical and medical device companies have with certain health care professionals licensed by that government. As will other pharmaceutical, biologic and medical device manufacturers who do business in those jurisdictions, Boston Scientific will be required by law to report many types of direct and indirect payments and other transfers of value to health care professionals licensed by that jurisdiction. This generally includes the name of the contracting party, the purpose of the payment, the amount and nature of any payments made and possibly other information about the payment. Note that Boston Scientific also uses payment information in preparing tax returns and when making other reports where required or where it is advisable to make such reports. Some governments make such information available on a searchable website.
