Boston Scientific's Patient Advocacy program provides financial and consulting support to several patient advocacy groups in their roles as trusted cardiovascular health resources for patients. These advocacy groups provide education or support for patients living with cardiovascular disease or who have a family member with this disease. In 2008, Boston Scientific contributed $700,000 to patient advocacy groups.
Our goal is to empower patients and families to make informed decisions about their care by providing access to accurate information through trusted resources. Our role is not to address specific Boston Scientific products, but to help patient advocacy groups provide consistent and unbiased information about available therapies that will lead to a better quality of life for patients and their families.
Boston Scientific funds a variety of patient advocacy groups, including the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association (SCA), which identifies and provides networking for survivors of SCA; WomenHeart provides education, community-based support networks and advocacy training for women living with heart disease; and Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes (SADS) Foundation, is dedicated to informing the general public and medical professionals about the effects of untreated or undiagnosed cardiac arrhythmias. Boston Scientific is currently funding a SADS project to help patients examine their health history and understand their risks for SCA.
